Week 5

Brief

"Design an experiential CV."

Overview of Week

For this week, we reviewed the material exploration and decided to stick to making metaphors experiential CVs.

Material exploration

We reviewed our material exploration and found the exhibition route the most experiential and interactive. We kept that as the core way of representing the CV as a metaphor.

Matryoshka dolls representing Mary's personhood and growth. Although it reveals layers to a person, she found it inadequate to fully convey context. (Credits: Mary) (Image is larger on click)

Mary's CV as a comic book depicting her education, work and herself generated through AI. Although we found the format interesting, it still utilised text. (Credits: Mary) (Image is larger on click)

Feasibility check for Arduino, components, and ways it can be utilised for our context. It can serve as the backbone for the artefacts participants created at our workshop last week. (Credits: Author) (Image is larger on click)

Based on the feasibility check, Waleed created his CV on an Arduino. This prototype still has a text-based output, which can be substituted for audio through speakers or lights. (Video controls are available, credits: Waleed)

CV as an artefact that represent's the candidate's metaphor. For example, they are resilient and grounded like a rock. CV can be downloaded through a QR and is accompanied with a podcast. (Credits: Clara) (Image is larger on click)

CV as a 3 course meal. It can represent cultural habits, slow-cooked elements for patience, balancing flavours for stakeholder management etc. Images were generated through AI. (Credits: Oindrilla) However, since these were far too complex to execute with our culinary skills and we wanted to focus on fewer CVs, we did not test this. (Image is larger on click)

Moodboarding

At this stage, we decided to explore Clara, Mary, and my CV as exhibitions due to convenience and unavailability of the workshop participants. We created moodboards for each and decided to stick to just 3 to be able to develop them all well.

"I am a fish because I’m unpredictable, refreshing, and full of fun surprises (I also love swimming)." (Author) (Image is larger on click)

"I am a river. Because I get distracted flowing through different channels, wondering which way to go, experiencing volatility because I am easily influenced by my surroundings but always retain my natural and original flow." (Clara) (Image is larger on click)

"Light coming through the branches. I can understand what needs to be seen and shine light on that although it might not want to be seen" (Mary) (Image is larger on click)

Making the assets

At this stage, we split into teams to work on the the 3 exhibitions. Veronika and I worked on the fish and Oindrilla and Clara lent help as this was the clearest direction and would take the longest to develop. A diorama felt apt for the fish, especially since including me in the set would add more dimension and also showcase my extraversion.

We used simple shapes for the fish instead of making it a specific species. (Image credits: Revati)

Pink was chosen as the colour as it was the my favourite. (Image credits: Revati)

Some seaweed cutouts had parts of my CV, we wanted to add dimension by using the achievements section. (Image credits: Revati)

Next Steps

We had an online call to keep everyone in loop about the project since half the team was unavailable this week. We also took this opportunity to check in and if anyone wanted to contribute in other ways. Clara, Mary and I decided to work on our audio scripts individually and come back with it next week.

Reflection

Although Arduino would have been a very powerful tool to add dimension to the creative toolkit artefacts, it would have taken very long and I would have been unable to focus on my CV exhibit. Moreover, the participants we interacted with previously were occupied and we did not have sufficient time left to conduct it with a new set of people.

On a personal level, the framework felt like an extension of myself. I could decide how it could be presented based on my level of comfort. Although I knew I liked fishes, I would not have thought to present my professional self through it if I did not have this framework. Even though the exhibit was entirely focused on my personhood, my teammates put the same amount of effort as they would have had for their own CV.
